About

Short Bio

Atlanta based painter, multimedia artist and sculptor.

Statement

In its truest form, artistic expression should provide a window into the heart and mind of the artist. In this spirit, I try to illuminate both the tangible and the intangible: the physical world and my emotional response to it.

My work examines the relationship between the natural and the man-made, often in conflict, but not necessarily so. I combine abstract organic forms with elements of landscape, architecture, and the human figure, exploring the tension between them through color, gesture, line, texture, and vector.

My subjects are not bound in a defined time frame.  While my paintings can be considered a snapshot capturing a unique moment in time, they can also be viewed as an ongoing dialogue evocative of the process of change, both creative and destructive.

Biography

Claudia is a painter, collagist, sculptor, and woodworker. An artist’s journey is an evolving one, with many steps along the way.  The daughter of an sculptor and a Julliard trained opera singer, Claudia was raised in a home infused with art & music.  In her early years, she experimented with watercolor, oils, pastels and sculpture. Receiving her first commissions as a teen, her early works reflected a desire to realistically portray the natural world. Later, the complexities of the human form and man-made structures were explored in a more abstract form. Hoping to combine her love of art and mathematics, Claudia studied architecture at University of Florida. Finding the focus too limiting, she packed her easel, and moved to Atlanta in 1979. She studied and practiced pharmacy, while continuing to paint, sculpt, and study with area teachers. Her current work weaves connections between color, mood, structure, texture and kinetics.
